Several years ago, I read The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. It was a real eye opener for me to realize that I could think I was expressing love for someone, but that they might not see it as love because they spoke a different love language. Sort of like me speaking German to someone who understands only Italian.

Perfect and bulletproof are seductive, but they don’t exist in the human experience. We must walk into the arena, whatever it may be – a new relationship, an important meeting, our creative process, or a difficult family conversation – with courage and the willingness to engage. Rather than sitting on the sidelines and hurling judgment and advice, we must dare to show up and let ourselves be seen. This is vulnerability. This is daring greatly.

The book opens with a letter that I wrote to Ganimedes shortly after he died. The last few weeks of his life, I found myself writing him letters every few days – even though I was living in the same house with him and was with him 24 hours a day.
